Labor Minister to Meet Tea Workers on Dec 23

Labor minister, Moloy Ghatak is going to conduct a meeting with tea workers of closed Tea gardens on Dec 23 in Siliguri’s Uttarkanya, said sources. Executives of food and labor department will also be present at the meeting.
Another tea worker, Ram Bahadur Sorki (58) of Dooar’s Gaerganda Tea garden died on Sunday. He family has alleged that he died because of malnutrition and lack of treatment. More than 60 workers have died in the last two months. In most cases it has been seen that malnutrition, lack of treatment is the main cause of death.
The increasing number of death in the tea garden has become a serious matter of concern for the state as well as the government. Fingers have already been pointed out against the Government. Till now government has sent aid of rice and wheat for the tea garden workers.
Trinamool District President of Alipurduar and Jalpaiguri, Sourav Chakraborty has said the tea workers have requested him to arrange a meeting with the labor minister so that they can discuss their problems. Hence the meeting has been organized on 23rd December.
